As a primarily introverted person, the need to be a loud extroverted professional can be overwhelming. I feel incredible pressure to conform with the “societal norm” of being extroverted when I go to parties, to conferences, to meetings. My wife is extroverted enough for both of us so I’d rather have a long and deep conversation with one or two people than flutter from group to group talking a lot but saying little. Just watching this TED talk and realising that other people feel this way and that this is not a bad thing helps me to realise that my introversion should be welcomed and embraced, not suppressed.
There is also a book – Quiet: The power of introverts in a world that can’t stop talking.
